LinkedIn announced a new product today that integrates the professional social network into your iPhone’s mail app. LinkedIn Intro is an app exclusively for the iPhone that gives you LinkedIn info about the people you contact, right in your mail app.

“The growth of mobile email is simply staggering,” wrote LinkedIn in a blog post. “Four years ago, less than 4% of emails were read on mobile. Today, half of all emails are read on a mobile device!”

Check out how LinkedIn Intro works in the video below.

To aid users who rely on mobile email as a major form of communication, LinkedIn Intro aims to provide users with information about each contact that has a LinkedIn account. Knowing what role a person has at a company will guide how you word your emails before contacting them. Intro works entirely inside your iPhone’s mail application. LinkedIn Intro works with Apple’s Mail app for iOS, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Aol Mail, iCloud, and Google Apps.

Tap on the person’s banner will reveal a drop-down menu with the most important information like what company that person works for, where he or she went to school, and where they are located now. If you want more information, you can expand Intro to show his or her entire LinkedIn profile.

LinkedIn also debuted a brand new iPad application. It looks completely different from previous versions. People in your network are at the forefront of your LinkedIn feed and actions for liking, commenting, sharing, and following are located directly in the feed. You no longer need to tap on a person’s profile to perform these actions. Images and videos also display inline so you don’t have to leave the app.

The company has also added a bunch of new features like Jobs, so users can look up job listings on their iPad. The app’s search bar can also search Jobs as well as Companies and Groups to find what you’re looking for.
